Kate Upton literally defies gravity in her photo shoot for Sports Illustrated’s 50th anniversary swimsuit issue. Wearing only a tiny gold bikini, the 21-year-old supermodel swings upside down and poses in multiple angles during her photo layout that took place aboard a zero gravity plane at the Space Coast Regional Airport at Cape Canaveral in Florida. The photos and video follows last year’s SI Swimsuit issue stunt in which Upton braved the frigid climes of Antarctica wearing only a bikini. “The Zero-G experience was really exhilarating for everyone involved,” said MJ Day, editor of the Sports Illustrated issue. “Once again, Kate surprised us all with how she handled modelling in weightlessness.”
Amy Adams couldn’t hold back the tears while talking about Philip Seymour Hoffman during her appearance on Inside the Actors Studio. The Oscar-nominated star of American Hustle told host James Lipton that working with the recently deceased actor on the 2008 film Doubt was a life-changing experience. “He was beautiful, a beautiful spirit,” said a tearful Adams about Hoffman. “And he had this unique ability to see people, really see them … And he will be missed.”
For a 17-year-old, Lorde has a solidly retro perspective on fashion. The New Zealand pop sensation talks at length about her style influences in the March issue of Vogue. When asked about her personal style icons, Lorde responded: “People like Grace Jones and David Bowie, who have a sense of themselves.” Lorde also said that she consciously avoids fashion trends. “The kind of clothes that I’ve found I like to wear over the past year and six months have all been things that make me feel powerful and strong. I wear a lot of pants. I wear a lot of long structure dresses.”
Singer Pharrell Williams wants to clean up the planet’s oceans, one pair of jeans at a time. The Get Lucky vocalist recently announced plans to launch a collection under the label G-Star Raw that would make jeans out of plastic recycled from ocean waste. The plastic would be incorporated into the jeans as part of the core of each denim strand, which in turn would be covered in an outer layer of cotton to create “bionic yarn.” Williams says the eco-friendly jeans will be available in stores by mid-August.
Barbara Walters – vibrator spokesperson? Earlier this week, the 84-year-old Walters admitted on The View that she still uses a vibrator for her personal pleasure. The admission came to the attention of a sex-toy company called Phallix, which promptly sent a letter to The View’s New York offices announcing that it had created a “Babs” product – a self-pleasuring device made of smooth glass that was allegedly designed by former NASA engineers – and offered Walters the job of front person. No word yet on whether Walters has accepted the job.
