DOGGIE DEAREST
Miley Cyrus has moved on from the recent death of her beloved dog Floyd by welcoming a brand-new pup into her life.
And in Miley's world, that means taking a selfie with the pooch in the shower.
The Wrecking Ball singer went onto social media over the weekend to share news of the arrival of her new pup Emu with fans.
Last April, Cyrus was crestfallen when her beloved dog Floyd passed away while she was in Boston on her current worldwide Bangerz concert tour.
Shortly after, Cyrus posted a lengthy note on Twitter in which she stated, "I want everyone's heart to break the way my heart is breaking."
More recently, Cyrus revealed that she has assembled a shrine devoted to Floyd.
The official mourning period for Floyd appeared to come to an end over the weekend when Cyrus posted several pictures of her new dog – named Emu – to her Instagram account on Saturday.
In a caption to one of her snapshots, Cyrus said, "Time to start making Emu accounts smilers. He's here and here to stay. I welcomed Emu Coyne Cyrus into the family a couple days ago. Been keepin him a secret cause sometimes I'm weird like that. It's taken some time to be ready for this next step and loving again."
And Cyrus made certain that everyone understood that Emu was not intended as a replacement for Floyd in her note.
"Never will I replace Floyd and that's something I had to take time to understand," she wrote. "We had a very special memorial service for Floyd and I felt my angel Floydy give Emu his blessing."
And while all the Emu pictures were pretty adorable, the 21-year-old pop star took the welcoming party to the next level on Sunday when she decided to take a shower with Emu – which she naturally posted to Instagram.
Cyrus's caption for the adorable pic: "Ending the best day ever giving emu baby a shower in my bedazzled space cap."
GONE TOO SOON
TV veteran Meshach Taylor has passed away at age 67. Best known for his long-running role on the sitcom Designing Women from 1986 to 1993, Taylor passed away at his home near Los Angeles on Saturday, according to his agent Dede Binder. Taylor earned a best supporting actor nomination for his work on Designing Women in 1989. Taylor also assumed support roles in the sitcoms Dave's World and Buffalo Bill.

BACKING OUT
Zendaya Coleman has dropped out of the Aaliyah biopic. The former Disney Channel star has officially removed herself from the planned Lifetime movie set to chronicle the fleeting life of the singer, who passed away in a plane crash in 2001. According to an earlier TMZ report, Aaliyah's family were upset that the singer's life and times were the subject of a cable-TV movie instead of a feature film. Lifetime responded to Coleman's decision on Twitter over the weekend with the statement, "We are sad Zendaya will no longer portray Aaliyah. Production is currently on hold."

LOVE MATCH
U.S. president Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama went to see Do The Right Thing on their very first date. Last weekend, a screening marking the 25th anniversary of the 1989 film was held at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and included the participation of director Spike Lee and several actors. Before the film started, attendees saw a clip of Barack and Michelle reminiscing about their first date together. "I took her to this new movie everybody was talking about, directed by a guy that not that many people had heart of," said Obama in the clip. Interjected Michelle: "He was trying to show me his sophisticated side by selecting an independent filmmaker."

ROLL UP THE RIM
There will be a Pacific Rim 2, but it won't land in theatres until 2017. Director Guillermo del Toro personally made the announcement that the sequel to his 2013 blockbuster will be released on April 7, 2017. The first Pacific Rim told the fantastical story of a future world in which giant robots called Jaegers are created by humans to battle the increasing threat of underwater alien creatures called Kaiju. Pacific Rim was a box-office disappointment in North America – making $101-million (U.S.) off a $190-million budget – but the film recouped its losses by earning more than $300-million in overseas markets.

HE'S BACK
Denis Leary is headed back to FX with a new comedy series. The creator and star of the series Rescue Me will reassume the spotlight in the new series Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll, in which he will play the role of a middle-aged rock star attempting to reunite his nineties band. Also in the cast is John Corbett, Elaine Hendrix and Bobby Kelly. Leary wrote the pilot episode for the new series, which is expected to join the FX lineup midway through next season.
