HIGH NOTES

Who would finish first on your personal list of the all-time greatest vocalist? Elvis Presley? Whitney Houston? Mick Jagger?

How about Axl Rose?

To the surprise of a great many people, the Guns N’ Roses frontman tops a new list of pop-music singers ranked in accordance to their vocal-range potential.

According to the chart compiled by the travel website Concert Hotels, Rose’s unique vocal talent has the ability to soar higher than such notable divas as Mariah Carey and Christina Aguilera and reach lower than the rumbling bass stylings of late soul singer Barry White.

How high and low can Rose reach? The list’s interactive chart shows the singer hitting a ear-rattling F1 note in the song There Was a Time from their 2008 album Chinese Democracy, and dipping all the way down to a B-flat 6 in the song Ain’t It Fun from their 1993 album The Spaghetti Incident?

And according to the chart, that’s the widest range of all the singers featured on the list.

Finishing second on the Concert Hotels list was Carey, who holds the distinction of hitting the extremely high G7 note in several songs, including Emotion.

Coming in third was Prince, followed by Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler, James Brown, Marvin Gaye and Aguilera.

And finishing in 75th place: country singer Luke Bryan.

Of course, it’s worth mentioning that when the revered music magazine Rolling Stone compiled its own list of the greatest singers of all time a few years ago, the number-one position went to Aretha Franklin.

And Axl Rose finished 64th overall.

All the advance hype for the new Fox reality series I Wanna Marry Harry didn’t translate into boffo ratings. The reality concept following 12 American women duped into believing they’re competing for the affections of Prince Harry (who is really an average bloke resembling him) pulled in a paltry 2.1-million U.S. viewers for its debut episode earlier this week. By comparison, Harry’s primetime competition included Dancing with the Stars (14.8-million U.S. viewers) and finale of The Voice (11.5 million).

SHORE MEMORIES

Nicole (Snooki) Polizzi admits she has only hazy memories of her former Jersey Shore days. The reality star recently admitted to Access Hollywood that she was usually inebriated when she filmed the interview segments for the MTV reality series that made her famous. “I did every interview drunk,” said Polizzi. “It was literally like a party stage. It was like, ‘This is awesome.’ So I would drink all the time.” Currently pregnant with her second child, Polizzi said she learned from the experience. “It’s made me the person I am today. So I had to go through all of that crap to get where I am.”

She’s clearly spending millions getting married in Europe, and if it all turns into a wash-out she will be really unhappy.”

SELFIE SNAFU

Kevin Spacey has denied he was paid big bucks to pose for a selfie with the president of Mexico. The House of Cards star was pictured with President Enrique Pena Nieto during a tourist conference in Cancun on May 7. Both Spacey and Nieto tweeted the picture, but Mexican newspaper columnist Salvador Garcia Soto claimed that Spacey was paid $8-million (U.S.) for the picture. Spacey has since denied the charge with his tweet stating, “Story about Mex Gov paying 8m or any amount for selfie not true! Was in Mex for Tourist Board event. Meeting President not planned at all.”

NAKED TRUTH

Viewers have seen a fleeting glance of Game of Thrones star Michael Huisman’s chiseled body, but Playgirl magazine wants to show a lot more. The magazine has issued the offer of a nude photoshoot to the 32-year-old actor, who dropped his pants in last Sunday’s new episode of the medieval-fantasy HBO series. Playgirl publisher Vincent Stevens said he e-mailed Huisman with the offer and urged him to “correct the oversight” by posing completely naked.
