The son of CBC sportscaster Scott Oake is going viral with his magic tricks performed on Britain’s Got Talent. Darcy Oake is gaining online attention for his amazing feats of legerdemain on the British talent-search series last weekend. To the astonishment of Simon Cowell and the other BGT judges, the Winnipeg native made several doves appear out of thin air and then transformed them into a woman. Before his performance, Oake, 26, charmed the audience with his explanation of how he launched his magic career: “Actually I had hopes and dreams of becoming a doctor, but my parents insisted I become a magician,” said Oake.
All of a sudden, Michelle Obama is everywhere on American television. Following the recent news that the first lady would make a guest appearance on the season finale of Parks and Recreation on April 24, ABC has announced that she will also appear on an upcoming episode of Nashville, the network’s primetime soap set in the world of country music. Obama will share guest-star billing on the Nashville episode, which is slated to air on May 7, with country superstar Kellie Pickler.
Quentin Tarantino will rework the leaked script for his movie The Hateful Eight. The Oscar-nominated director made the announcement during a live reading of the Hateful Eight script at the United Artists Theatre in Los Angeles over the weekend. In a break during the reading, which included the participation of Tarantino favourites like Samuel L. Jackson, Tim Roth and Michael Madsen, the director said he still hasn’t given up on the movie. “I’m working on a second draft and I will do a third draft,” said Tarantino. Last January, the script for Hateful Eight was leaked online by Defamer, prompting Tarantino to sue the website and announce he was cancelling plans to make the movie.
Gwen Stefani has joined NBC’s The Voice as a judge-mentor. The former No Doubt frontwoman will fill the void left by Christina Aguilera, who will be on maternity leave when the reality singing-competition commences filming its seventh season in June. Stefani’s arrival on The Voice comes shortly after NBC announcement that Happy singer Pharrell Williams will fill the judge chair left vacant by CeeLo Green. Voice fixtures Adam Levin and Blake Shelton will both remain in their regular roles on the show.
The upcoming seventh season of True Blood will also be the show’s last hurrah. On Sunday night’s new episode of Game of Thrones, HBO released the first official trailer for the vampire saga’s sendoff season, which seemed to suggest an end-of-days scenario for central telepath Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin) and her blood-sucking pals. “There was an attack at the church tonight,” says Sookie in the trailer. “They’re saying it was the sick vampires, that they came out of the dark – another ambush.” The final season of True Blood begins airing on HBO and HBO Canada on June 22.
