Are there truly secret plans afoot to transform Robert Pattinson into the next Harrison Ford?

Don't believe the hype.

Known worldwide for his role as the brooding vampire Edward in the five Twilight films, the rakish British actor has effectively dismissed current online rumblings that he will play a younger version of whip-cracking adventurer Indiana Jones – one of Ford's most famous screen roles – in a new film.

"I don't know why," said a perplexed Pattinson at the recent L.A. premiere of his new film The Rover, reports People. "Why is that coming out? I honestly don't understand what it's all about. Man, I wish!"

Pattinson, 28, was also dumbfounded when asked to confirm or deny that he would attempt a younger portrayal of Han Solo, the character made famous by Ford in Star Wars, in a stand-alone movie.

"I didn't even know there was a Han Solo spinoff coming out," said Pattinson, according to People. "Sounds like a cool spinoff. I'll watch it."

Pattinson, it seems, is more at home with edgy film fare like The Rover, a dark drama in which he plays a scrappy survivor in a dystopian future. Pattinson recently admitted in a MTV News interview that he auditioned in character for the film - against his better judgment.

"Last time I did that was for Transformers 2, and I almost lost my agent," said Pattinson.

In the same interview, Pattinson revealed that he auditioned for the role of Shia LaBeouf's sidekick in the film.

"I thought I was being so funny," he explained. "I was saying I was from somewhere in America, because I always kept thinking that if you say you're English, then they judge your American accent."

The problem with Pattinson's plan: "They knew I was English. So they were listening to my backstory about being from Denver, and they're like, 'What is this guy on?'"

Pattinson didn't get the part but his next career move was landing the starring role in Twilight, which launched his acting career into the stratosphere.

And since we're settling the score here, let's address the other ongoing rumours that Pattinson is currently dating Katy Perry.

The truth: They may have been seen flirting after The Rover premiere, reports the New York Post, but so far, all signs say the English actor and the American pop star are just friends.

The celebrity-gossip world can abide a Kimye, but it's still not quite ready for Kattinson.
