Shocking video appears to show Beyoncé’s sister Solange attacking Jay Z in elevator Add to ...

Why is everybody talking about the surveillance video showing who appears to be Jay Z being attacked in an elevator?

Very likely because the rap mogul’s attacker seems to be his own wife Beyoncé’s sister, Solange Knowles.

As first reported on TMZ, the astounding video shows Jay Z fending off a woman wildly kicking and swinging at him inside an elevator.

According to TMZ’s source, the brouhaha took place at the Standard Hotel in New York last week at an after party following the Met Gala.

The incident begins innocently enough, with Jay Z in a white tuxedo stepping calmly onto the elevator – at which point all hell breaks loose.

The woman alleged to be Solange Knowles, younger sister of Beyoncé, first yells at Jay Z before she turns it into a physical attack.

Also in the elevator is a large man believed to be a bodyguard, who attempts to hold back Solange. Even with his efforts, she appears to connect at least three times.

At one point, Solange attempts to throw a kick toward Jay Z, but he grabs her foot. At no point in the confrontation does Jay Z strike back or retaliate.

A second female figure, believed to be Beyoncé, stands nearby in the elevator and never gets involved in the fracas.

Posted on TMZ early this morning, the video is quickly going viral. There has been no insight from any of the alleged parties involved as to what may have initiated the fight.

TMZ also points out that the bodyguard hits the emergency stop button, presumably in an attempt to keep the fight private.

But after the bumpy ride resumes, the elevator stops and everyone walks out of the building together. Beyoncé and her sister walk toward one waiting car, while security escorts Jay-Z to a separate vehicle.

Whatever incited the argument, Beyoncé seems to be standing by her man: A few days after the incident, the couple were smiling for the cameras at a basketball playoff game between the Brooklyn Nets and Miami Heat – sitting courtside, of course, and being very public with their displays of affection.

The lesson here: What happens in the elevator, stays in the elevator.
