Product review: Karin Herzog Erase & Raise Hyaluronic Acid Serum

From Saturday's Globe and Mail

The promise

The latest anti-aging innovation from the laboratories of Dr. Paul and Karin Herzog, Erase & Raise vows to hydrate, protect, smooth and plump the skin. All-natural with no preservatives, it’s specifically targeted to women in their mid-30s who are looking to diminish and impede the signs of aging.

How it works

Four active ingredients work together to target a different sign of aging. Hyaluronic acid (the stuff actors and lunching ladies inject into their faces) provides hydration and plumps up skin, vitamin E protects against UV rays, chamomile calms skin and reduces redness and niacinamide (vitamin B3) regulates texture, making it ideal for mixed skin types.

How to use it

Shake bottle well before use. Apply a few drops of the serum to clean skin in areas prone to early signs of aging – i.e., on the forehead and around the eyes, nose and the corners of the mouth. Layer your moisturizer on top. The product can be used daily and can be reapplied throughout the day if desired.

The bottom line

This may give you the biggest shock of your mid-30s (and older life), dear reader, but applying hyaluronic acid to your face isn’t going to yield the same results as injecting it. Don’t misunderstand me: This product works to diminish the appearance of fine lines and smooth out skin, but it’s not going to stop the clock. It will, however, give your complexion a boost while still granting you the ability to convey emotion. All the better for furrowing your brow every time Courteney Cox appears on your television screen.
