The question

I love the bold cat eyes shown at many of the spring shows, but I'm 40 and my eye area isn't as taut as it used to be. Can I still wear this look?

The answer

You definitely can, but I recommend trying out a softer, smokier version instead.

This can be achieved by slightly smudging the edge of the lines after you've drawn on your preferred cat-eye shape (graphic liner doesn't always look great on wrinkled or crepey skin). I also suggest steering clear of shimmery liners, which tend to come off as juvenile.

Another tip is to choose a liner in a shade other than black, which can be rather severe on a mature eye. Rather, opt for a colour such as rich coffee brown or dark slate grey with a hint of purple – either of which will provide just the right amount of impact.
