Not since Britney Spears's breakout hit Baby One More Time – released, ahem, back in 1998 – have track pants been such a mainstream staple. And, thanks to the luxe fabrications and dressy pairings shown on spring's runways, you're likely to see the athletic-inspired trousers making appearances in settings more professional than a high-school basketball court. Here's how to wear them, baby, one more time.

1. Ditch those courtside tearaways: This season's updated track pants are a far cry from the sweats you wear to run your Saturday errands. Do look for sporty details such as stripes and comfy ones such as a drawstring waist. And don't sweat it – a dressy fabric (such as wool or a silk blend) and a tailored cut will make them office-appropriate.

2. When putting an athletic-inspired look like this together, stay far away from crop tops and tanks. Instead, take a cue from Gucci's spring runway show (above left) and pair with a structured jacket and button-up shirt. Like Britney herself in 2012, you're not a teenager any more.

3. Dress up the details. They'll serve as a polished counterpoint to the slouchiness of the pants and make the overall effect more professional. Opt for high heels over sneakers, obviously, and keep your wrists stacked with bangles (rather than extra hair ties).
