Polished, crisp and minimal, the boxy tee is probably the only version of the often-sloppy wardrobe staple you should actually wear to the office. Often in stiffer (read: fancier) fabrics, it's a welcome switch from the tried-and-true button-up shirt. Here's how to make it hip to be square.

1. Layering is always a good bet when you want to push formality in the workplace. To that end, throwing a clean, streamlined turtleneck underneath the tee will make it instantly boardroom-appropriate.

2. Stay away from combed-cotton fabrications or anything super-soft. These will skew too casual. Instead, take a cue from Stella McCartney's fall presentation (above left) and opt for brassy, gold or silver tones.

3. This quite a voluminous piece, so you'll want to balance out the rest of the look with something fitted. A pencil skirt or slim, cropped trousers will do the trick. And if you're on the petite side, heels will add the right amount of balance.
