Five trends from New York Fashion Week
Shirt Dresses: Ally Hilfiger and Nary Manivong’s line NAHM is onto something with its variations on a timeless theme. In starched cotton or printed crepe, a shirtdress will be summer’s no-brainer staple.
Sports Bras: The lingerie-as-outwear look has given way to the sports bra, seen at Helmut Lang and Narciso Rodriguez (in soft shades of aqua, coral and citrus yellow) and Tess Giberson.
The Side Rib: It appears designers are bored with exposed shoulders, midriffs and backs. Cutouts at Chado Ralph Rucci and Mark Fast make the side torso the hot new erogenous zone.
Summer Anoraks: The idea of seasonless dressing has been floating around for, well, seasons. Whether cropped (at Rebecca Taylor) or covered in botanical print (at Alexander Wang), this the new all-weather topper.
