The question
I love large statement necklaces. Can you suggest some trendy styles and how to wear them at work with a collared shirt?
The answer
Do you remember the mid-1990s, when black chokers were a big trend? If not, you're better off. That might be the last time we had a single dominant necklace trend. Since then, Lanvin's grosgrain-andpearl beauties spawned a sea of knock-offs; ditto the acetate bibs from Marni, many bursting with abstract insects and geometric shapes. Today, both brands are showing wood and gold in their costume jewellery.
Statement necklaces are not a big trend for spring, but that doesn't mean you can't wear one. My favourites are by designers Maryam Keyhani and Arielle de Pinto, two Canadians who have been profiled in Globe Style in the past.
Two other Canadian lines, Jenny Bird and Pyrrha, do some strong statement pendants, which, to answer your second question, always go outside and around your collar (even if the shirt is slightly unbuttoned). Otherwise, the necklace will disappear into the nether regions of your décolletage. And then, of course, you wouldn't be making a statement.
