Party photos of the week: Big Bang Bash Add to ...

It’s only June, but Thursday night’s Big Bang Bash is already the event of the year. Like a scene out of a Batman movie in Gotham City, the annual Luminato Festival and Yves Saint Laurent Opening Night party set the bar unrealistically high by taking over The Hearn, an abandoned generating station near Toronto’s Port Lands area. Guests wove through a set of dark and moody caves before arriving at an opening – a dimly lit, decrepit warehouse space larger than the eye could process. In the heart of it, two Alice in Wonderland-esque extended dining tables, set for 500 black-tie guests. Celebrating Berlin’s underground culture through the decades, Luminato Festival Artistic Director Jorn Weisbrodt brought Berlin to life, “a city with a wound,” as he so elegantly called it, via graffiti decor, spray can chandeliers, weirdly charming 3-D printed objects and avant-garde art installations. The best part, though, was watching artist Bruce Bailey whisk through the room in his forest green Valentino suit and matching Alexander McQueen patent leather shoes. And Isabella Rossellini, of course. It was truly an unprecedented glamourous evening in Toronto.
