Out: K-Cups

It's time to trash coffee pods. For the environment's sake, the plastic saucers that fuel single-serve coffee-makers have got to go. Neither recyclable nor biodegradable, they recently inspired the social hashtag #KillTheKCup, after a doomsday-themed viral video calculated that the reported nine billion K-Cups sold last year could span 10.5 laps around the Earth. Consider also this ringing endorsement: "I don't have one. They're kind of expensive to use," said Sylvan this month. Plus: coffee for one? That's awfully selfish.

In: Regular ol' coffee

As K-Cup creator John Sylvan deftly noted, "It's not like drip coffee is tough to make." Yes, it's time to get back to basics. Get reacquainted with the drip coffee machine that was wrongfully boxed away; do as hipsters do and try a French press; go Italian and master the stove-top moka pot. Slow down the day and appreciate the time it takes to make good coffee – the kind in a pot big enough to share with a friend.
