To update a classic mojito, add a dose of Fernet-Branca for a thirst-quenching Bicicletta.Matthew Sherwood/The Globe and Mail

A victim of its own success, the mojito has been shunned by muddle-weary bartenders and cocktail snobs who decided the drink was too obvious.

It's time to re-evaluate that stance, since the fresh and minty drink is still the season's best crisp, bubbly refresher. This updated and slightly bitter version ups the game by adding a dose of hipster-friendly Fernet-Branca that punches back the sweet rum and provides an herbal, earthy dimension and a deft riposte to the charge that the drink has jumped the shark.

Embrace the last gasps of summer with a thirst-quenching Bicicletta.
