This pork burger rises to the occasion with its tourtiere flavours. It has a good mix of spices and a slight sweetness from the maple syrup and dried apples. Serve on a kaiser or onion bun with tomato relish or chutney.
½ cup finely chopped onions
1 cup fresh bread crumbs
3 tablespoons water
1 teaspoon ground allspice
1 teaspoon freshly ground nutmeg
½ teaspoon ground cloves
1 teaspoon cinnamon
¼ cup finely chopped dried apples
2 tablespoons maple syrup
¼ cup finely chopped pecans
1 tablespoon minced garlic
2 tablespoon parsley
Salt and freshly ground pepper
500 grams ground pork
Combine onion, egg, bread crumbs, water, allspice, nutmeg, cloves, cinnamon, dried apples, maple syrup, pecans, garlic, parsley, salt and pepper in a bowl. Add pork and use your hands or a spatula to gently incorporate without over-mixing.
Divide evenly into 4 portions and shape into 1-inch thick patties.
Grill patties on high heat with the lid closed for 4 minutes per side or until juices run clear.
