Unoaked and, thus, uncommon for a Golden State chardonnay, this entry-level white from quality producer Varner in the Santa Cruz Mountains shows sunny California fruit and a trace of honey. It's ripe, too, with a soft texture and good acidity for balance. This is a fine white for veal chops or roast chicken. Available in Ontario.
