Monster is the spinoff label of the great Poplar Grove winery in Naramata in B.C.'s Okanagan Valley. The name and cute cartoon label graphics allude to Ogopogo, the sea beast of First Nations legend said to lurk in Okanagan Lake. This is a blend of sauvignon blanc, gewürztraminer, viognier and riesling, flirting with off-dry sweetness but pulling back just in time. Mid-weight and silky, it shows syrupy stone fruit counterbalanced by bright acidity. This monster is more of a sweet peach; monstervineyards.com.
