This relatively affordable wine tries hard to drink like one of the more recherché, smaller brands that tend to cost at least $5 more, and it succeeds. So supple for a Chianti that it begs to be called postmodern rather than modern, it shows good concentration and subtle herbal-pepper flavours over berry fruit. Gently chalky, fine-grained tannins and a suggestion of classic sangiovese saltiness round out this well-rounded Tuscan. On sale for $13.95 in Ontario till Jan. 4; $19.99 in B.C. (discounted to $17.99 till Jan. 3), various prices in Alberta, $17.99 in New Brunswick, $19.99 in Nova Scotia (currently discounted to $17.49), $19.72 in Newfoundland (currently on sale for $17.72).
