Unibroue, based in Quebec, dubbed its line of limited-release, seasonal ales Éphémère to underscore their limited-time-only, "ephemeral" availability. Made in the Belgian white-ale style, they're brewed with fruit and have come in apple, cherry and cranberry versions. This new gem, hitting liquor stores shortly, is serious stuff for hard-core beer fans, not some cloying effervescent punch designed to compete with coolers, shandies or pear cider. Pale-gold and hazy, with a dense head of persistent froth, it's creamy, medium-bodied, crisp, with an impressively subtle pear essence that mingles seamlessly with Unibroue's classically Belgian wheat-beer notes of banana and clove. Available in Quebec, Ontario, British Columbia, Alberta and the Prairies.
