This comes from Monterey County, south of the more beaten wine paths of Napa and Sonoma. It's a good place for chardonnay, where vineyards benefit from cool Pacific breezes that help preserve acidity. The wine falls on the sweeter side of dry, though, with ample ripeness (at 14-per-cent alcohol) and round, syrupy pineapple and peach fruit, toasty oak and a lift from lemony acidity. Nice choice for salty popcorn. Various prices in Alberta.
