For the first time, there are more one-person households than those populated by couples who have children in Canada, according to Census figures released in 2012 that showed 27.6 per cent of all homes have just one occupant. As our living patterns shift, we ask: What does this change reveal about what our society values? What are our attitudes toward those who live alone? Is living alone an ideal situation or something that happens out of necessity?
