The College of Family Physicians of Canada has named André Picard, public-health reporter at The Globe and Mail, as the recipient of its 2011 CFPC/Scotiabank Family Medicine Lectureship Award.

The CFPC, which represents more than 26,000 family physicians across Canada, lauded Mr. Picard for his “insightful work that helps to challenge our thinking and focus all of us on ensuring the best possible health care for the people of Canada, family medicine issues and policies in our country,” said Dr. Robert Boulay, president of CFPC.

Mr. Picard donated the $15,000 prize money to Doctors Without Borders, the charity of his choice.
