It's 3 a.m. and your baby is crying. Should you run to the rescue or let him fall asleep on his own?

The issue is a dividing one, and how much sleep your baby gets - or doesn't - is a debate filled with guilt, competition and confusion in new parent circles.

Parenting expert Ann Douglas, author of Sleep Solutions for Your Baby, Toddler, and Preschooler, joins Globe writers Erin Anderssen, a firm believer in the no-cry method, and Tralee Pearce, who wrote about the new findings this week.
