The best stocking stuffers are mini tokens of love and friendship that reflect the personality and interests of both the giver and the getter. Please note, that usually discounts socks, deodorant and toothbrushes. It's also particularly difficult to get small gifts for home decor lovers. If for no other reason than homes are large and stockings are, well, small.

Things get doubly challenging if the aforementioned decor lover is also a local loyalist, and only wants to fill their pile with things made and designed in Canada. Walking through most furnishing shops, it's hard to find anything that was made on this continent, let alone this country. It's a tall order but not impossible. Independent crafters from coast to coast are creating wee giftables that are stylish, fun and fit within the confines of a stocking (albeit maybe with a bit of shoving). Here, six of the merriest.

Fold it

Toronto-based designer Avril Loreti’s soft cotton napkins are a perfect gift for either the most finicky or the most exuberant colour lover. Depending on how they’re folded, the paint chip-themed mouth wipers display either a lovely gradient of hues, or just one of four shades at a time. $75 (U.S.) for a set of six. Through avrilloreti.com.

Fill it

If the glasses of mimosa and piles of chocolate aren’t enough, Maude Blais’ sunny, floral egg cups will give Christmas morning breakfast a boost. The Montreal ceramist hand throws and sculpts all her pieces from porcelain, giving each one its own idiosyncratic charms. $14 each. Through maudeblais.com.

Minimalists – those for whom tinsel is a desecration – will adore TOMA Objects’ clocks. Made in Montreal, each one consists of as little as possible – a single sheet of sturdy paper, die cut with roman numerals so the hours appear as cast shadows. $35. Through tomaobjects.com.

Mark it

For Kobo-averse bookworms, a beautiful bookmark is an essential accessory. Vancouver-based Alex Henderson makes a particularly comely version. It’s inlaid with both walnut and maple, laser-cut with a delicate mountain pattern and topped with a hand-made cotton tassel. $24. Through hendersondrygoods.myshopify.com.

Admire it

Imm Living’s Carousel containers are one part Beatrix Potter one part Salvador Dali, with cutesy animal ears sprouting from colourful mini-planters. The poppy aesthetics are perfect for kids. The porcelain construction adds adult sophistication. $27. Through imm-living.com.

Hug it

Before Shima Itabashi, the Vancouer-based founder of Him Creations, can make one of her sweet little chickadees, she has to make her own wool felt from scratch. It’s a painstaking process that involves a needle and lots of patience, but it imbues her ornaments with an extra-soft, ultra-fuzzy cuteness. $10 each. Through etsy.com/ca/shop/himcreations.
