Alan Wisniewski, Chad Stewart and Kelly O’Regan each have their own successful day jobs – at industrial design studios Umbra and Shape Products.
Friends since they met at Humber College in 2003, they missed collaborating on playful projects where they had complete, creative control (the way one might doing a thesis, as opposed to racing against a professional deadline). They decided to put out their own piece, one that was well-crafted and reflected their Canadian roots. But it also had to be fun.
The resulting portage stool hits all three notes. Its form is derived from the seat of a cedar canoe (and was hand-built by professional canoe maker, Marc Russell). Its woven nylon top also features a vibrant flash of colour to bold effect. Fittingly, they’ve called their side project Cabin Crafted.
