The question

I have a blue bathtub (which I despise) and a tight budget. What's my best option: replace the tub or have it reglazed in white?

The answer

Oh, poor you. I can only imagine what shade of baby blue your tub is currently. And I do hope you don't have the matching sink and toilet. Whatever the case, I am going to share my $600-door story with you.

I once had a house with old doors that I painted, rehung, resanded and put new hardware on. The doors still peeled, were not square, were too short and didn't lock properly. For the $600 I spent to fix them up, I could have bought beautiful new doors. So what did I do? Actually, I moved, but that is another story. The lesson is that sometimes new is best. In my opinion, tub reglazing won't last, so, if your budget is tight now, wait until you can afford a new tub. Start visiting plumbing suppliers and choose a good, solid brand, such as Kohler. And, I probably don't have to tell you this, but stick with white!
