I'm painting a number of rooms in my house this fall. Should baseboards be painted the same colour as the walls or a different one?

Painting in the fall is so romantic - as long as someone else is holding the roller! But seriously, I would paint the baseboards and walls the same colour, but in different sheens. If you're painting a room white, for instance, use a soothing eggshell white on the walls and a high-gloss white on the baseboards. Painting is a lot like pairing shoes with stockings. Imagine a pair of black patent Prada heels with matte black Wolford stockings: The combination is elegant and/or dramatic, never jarring. It's the same - or should be - with paint, regardless of the hue.
