After purchasing the mid-Toronto home he shares with his wife, Pink Tartan designer Kim Newport-Mimran, and their daughter, Joe Fresh creative director Joe Mimran completely refashioned it, working with a team of architects and designers to create a ravine-lot home in the classic style. “I always pick up new ideas for the home when I travel," says Mimran, who is jet-setting a lot these days to oversee the launches of four new stand-alone Joe Fresh stores across Canada and in New York, the latter being his first international location. When he’s at home, Mimran likes to relax in his living room, the most personal showcase of his own sense of style. “I love this room because it connects with the entire house and displays many of my favourite pieces of art,” he says.
"It connects the different floors in the house and was designed to be a sculptural accent to the home. It works with the room from all angles and, if you look at it from below, it forms a spiral."
The colour palette
"The room is set in pale grey on grey tones. I love the mix of the 100-per-cent linen fabrics on the couch with the grey linen velvet chairs and the jute carpet; the overall look is very calming and is a great backdrop for art. The grey also references the natural stone colour of the house’s exterior.”
“I got this at South Hill Home in Toronto. The art deco shape mimics the design of the house. Plus it is an incredibly comfortable chair to sit in.”
“This sculptural white plaster table is by [California design company]Oly. I’m loving white plaster right now. In fact, you may even see the influence of this material in future Joe Fresh fashions.”
“It's by [U.K. artist]Claire Woods and was purchased at Art Basel Miami. We regularly travel to [art]fairs to seek out new talent and get inspired. Art is one of my most treasured indulgences.”
“It’s by [German artist]Stephan Balkenhol and ties my love of art and my career in fashion seamlessly together. I also found it at Art Basel. The first time Kim and I saw his sculptures in New York I knew they would become part of our collection."Report Typo/Error
