The back story
Developer Concord Pacific combined three raw units in its West One building overlooking the Rogers Centre in downtown Toronto to create the largest and most luxurious penthouse suite in the tallest tower on its sprawling CityPlace site.
The 2,560-square-foot space acted as the Hong Kong-based developer’s home base when in town and was the venue for everything from corporate functions, development and marketing affairs to intimate charity events benefitting Toronto General and Princess Margaret hospitals.
“The CityPlace owner wanted to have the most spectacular suite in the whole complex,” says agent Alex Pino. “When the builder is building for himself, there is no expense spared.”
On the 49th floor of the roughly five-year-old tower, there are just four units, including this two-bedroom penthouse custom designed to have an unobstructed view of the city and waterfront in each room, which also has access to over 1,100-square-feet of outdoor space split between two terraces.
The main entertaining and dining space has the air of a New York-style loft, with 231/2-foot ceilings, full height pillars and windows facing south, east and west, as well as sliding doors to both terraces, and a panelled wall framing two built-in wine coolers and a 15-foot-tall steel art piece along the back wall.
Glass partition walls seamlessly separate the reception hall and open family room. The kitchen is dressed with panelled ceilings, stainless steel appliances, sleek cabinetry and an island with a breakfast bar.
The master suite has its own private den, walk-in closet and exclusive entry to two of the four bathrooms.
Hidden out of view is a laundry room and automated light, sound and blinds systems. Two-car parking and extensive fitness and recreation facilities are an elevator ride away. Monthly fees are $1,675.
Every spot in the property is a good one to take in the outdoor setting, but the double height principal room is a real conversation piece.
“It has 270-degree views because you can look north to the city, look south to the lake or look west to the lake and city. So it’s the most dramatic space in the whole unit,” says Mr. Pino. “There is no other condo in Toronto with that space by the lake.
“On a clear day you can see all the way to Niagara Falls.”
Nearly every activity can make occupants feels like they’re on cloud nine, including bathing and slumbering in the master retreat.
“The back of your bed is facing west and the side of your bed is facing south, so if you’re sleeping there and you wake up to all this light and blue skies, so it’s like you’re in heaven,” says Mr. Pino.
“Even the stove is facing the lake, so if you’re cooking anything you’re looking at this fantastic view.”
The sheer size of the space – with both a den and family room – is also unheard of in conventional suites.
“This is the biggest unit in the building, but it’s also unique because those bigger units are the only ones without outdoor space of a considerable size,” says Mr. Pino, who //noting that //states few penthouses have even half the amount of space as this one does.
“Usually you have one or two access points to the terrace, but in this one, every single room you can walk out to a terrace.”
Mr. Pino says the showings so far have been to young professionals in their late 20's and early 30's, One was including a professional hockey player, another a film producer/singer, //and //another a radio host/producer.
