The taste of Veuve Clicquot in the morning can be a heady experience.

Especially for members of the Vancouver press corps who were escorted to the airport earlier this week in a new, chauffeur-driven Rolls-Royce Ghost and whisked away for a 40-minute flight on a Learjet to get a bird’s eye view of the site of the new Trump International Hotel & Tower.

The Holborn Group, developers of the $360-million Arthur Erickson designed twisting tower that goes to market in October, were anxious to give journalists a taste of the champagne lifestyle they say awaits buyers.

Holborn is partnering with London Air Services and Rolls-Royce; residents of the 218 suites will share access to the Rolls with guests in the 147 hotel rooms, and will receive flight hours based on the purchase price of each unit.

Other amenities include a champagne lounge, poolside bar, signature restaurant and Ivanka Trump-brand spa.

“But are there enough rich people in Vancouver to make this viable?” asked one champagne-

fuelled reporter of Holborn chief executive Joo Kim Tiah.

“We have three times as many registrations as units,” he replied, “and that’s just in the local market.”
