Priced under half a million, this detached, brick house with an attached double garage was great bait for about 100 open house attendants at the end of March. Fourteen visitors lined up with offers – and one withdrew – but one gambled with an accepted proposal $101,000 more than the list price.

What They Got: This three-bedroom house was modified to place an office and eat-in kitchen by the front foyer and a fireside living room and an open dining area at the rear with pot lights and a walkout to an interlocking patio and secluded backyard on the 29-by-109-foot lot.

The result allows for a main floor office in the original dining room, if desired,” Ms. Methven adds.

“[In addition] the size of a four-bedroom, built as a three, meant a huge master with a four-piece ensuite bath and walk-in closet.”
