The Action: Some buyers couldn’t see past the more traditional decor of this detached, century-old residence or its proximity to Indian Road Crescent Junior Public School across the street. But among 100 eager visitors, there were a few who saw the possibilities, including two who presented strong competing offers.

What They Got: There are two separate living spaces within this 21/2-storey structure, but the last owners treated it like a single-family home with four bedrooms, two full bathrooms, formal and casual entertaining areas and two garages off a laneway behind the 32-by-168-foot corner lot.

Public quarters include a main-floor living room, formal dining area and eat-in kitchen with ceramic floors rather than the hardwood seen in several rooms, and a walkout to a back porch and southwest-facing yard.

There are three second-floor bedrooms – one converted into an open family room and another outfitted with kitchen facilities and a balcony, in addition to two third-floor bedrooms and a lower-level bedroom off an open recreation room.

The Agent’s Take: “It’s slightly different in that it has three porches – one at the front and two at the back – which is not normal. You’re lucky if you get one,” says agent Bill Mohan. “In one bedroom, somebody had taken a wall out, so that was a little different.”

“It’s a nice, beautiful, long lot,” Mr. Mohan adds. “One garage was a 11/2-style frame and the one beside it was an older garage with a wood frame and metal. It wasn’t fancy, but it meant you could have a huge garage at the back of the property.”
