What They Got: The latest reincarnation of a former garment factory is a private residence for just a dozen lofts, such as this roughly 1,800-square-foot suite recently updated with hardwood and limestone floors throughout, two remodelled bathrooms and custom kitchen with an oversized island and stainless steel appliances.

The unit’s entrance leads to the lower level quarters, where there is a bedroom, family room and raised den with built-in shelving, exposed brick walls and pot lights.

The main staircase ascends to an open entertaining and cooking area with skylights 26-feet above, a wood-burning fireplace and sliding doors to a terrace, as well as a set of stairs to a mezzanine bedroom.

The Agent’s Take: “It was a loft, but it has the privacy you often don’t find because was effectively a space [spread] over three floors,” says Mr. Johnston. “[In this building], there is a mixture of different spaces and there are only two with that layout and configuration.”

Buyers also liked that this loft had traits of a detached home, but none of the work to care for it. “When you get into a house of this size, having outdoor space is critical,” adds Mr. Johnston.

“And one of the neat thing about this is that because this is such a small building, the maintenance fees are very low.”
