Globe and Mail Update

It's August and time for an update as the long days of summer have been put to constructive use here at 444 Front Street West.

The Globe's mini-infrastructure program is coming to a close and the view from our Toronto office window has been transformed. (See the before and after photos on the accompanying gallery.)

Gone is the dust and disorder that began in April when a team of contractors began repairing holes that had developed in the roof of the parking garage.

Now, the roof is shored up, paved over and yellow painted lines neatly divide it into parking stalls. (Given the high cost of parking in Canada's largest city, e-mail is fierce inside the building as the jockeying begins for a coveted spot. No casualties have been reported – yet.)

The response to our plea from the Property Report page, the weekly ROB page dedicated to commercial real estate, for views from your office window has been gratifying.

There were stunning views from Calgary, Vancouver and Victoria, making those of us transplanted to humid, rainy Toronto long for sunny summer days out West. Winnipeg and Saskatoon provided us with Prairie views. But our hope for at least one view of a canola field in bloom was not met. Surely someone must have an office with a view of a harvest scene?

That said, the plethora of views from downtown Toronto have been entertaining, including their tongue-in-cheek comments.

But before our summer feature expires, we need more. Especially views from the East. We've had only one from Quebec and sadly, the only e-mail submission from Halifax was corrupt – and took down the whole photo gallery as we tried to post it. (After reading this update, though, our Halifax contributor made amends and sent us a fresh photo. Thank you! That's reader interaction at its finest.)

What do you see out of your office window? Click here to submit a photo, and be sure to tell us where you are and what you're looking at.

It’s not a competition. There are no prizes. Just a sharing of distinct views.
