Duplexes like this one are also in fairly good demand, which is why it sold in just over a month, despite the light-industrial location. “We originally listed for $639,000 and had many showings,” says listing agent Dwayne Launt.

What They Got: This 1980s-style duplex on Strathcona’s industrial fringe got a complete makeover in 2009, turning it into a light-filled contemporary two-level space. Still, the building is next door to a warehouse, which made it a slightly harder sell than if it had been located further inside Strathcona, which is like an urban village.

The Agent’s Take: “In the Strathcona market as well as Kiwassa, which is eastern Strathcona, things have been selling quite quickly,” says Mr. Launt. “There’s just not a lot out there right now. Of course people prefer to have the hot items, detached homes within the core of Strathcona. This being attached and a bit further out, [the sale] took longer than expected.”
