Things later changed and this fall they zeroed in on this attached brick cottage, which was listed below market value likely to spark a bidding war. So they paid a premium that trumped six rival bids.

What They Got: Just steps from Kensington Market, this more than-century-old bungalow is up to date with a new roof, furnace and eat-in kitchen with stone counters, hardwood floors and side doors to the 16-by-125-foot grounds and parking off a laneway.

Some original trims and mouldings were left intact inside, where there is a living room, one bedroom and bathroom, as well as laundry facilities in an unfinished basement accessed via a set of stairs or trap door.

The Agent’s Take: “There are not many bungalow attached homes; in fact, I think this is the only one I have seen,” says agent Honey Moore. “The duplicate house next door has put the bedroom on the second floor, which offers much more space. The owners of 50 [Lippincott] may do that as well.”

But its current condition still charmed buyers. “The house is a very cute dollhouse type with only one bedroom and a very limited basement,” Ms. Moore states. “As a point of interest, the basement is accessed by a trap door on the floor at the back of the house.”
