What They Got: This brick-and-wood townhouse was completed in the late 1990s, so various components were updated by different owners, including the sellers who replaced the front and back deck railings and redid the third-floor deck and roofing within the last year.

The owner’s suite contains a main-floor bedroom, kitchen and living area with sliding doors to a rear deck, as well as lower-level bathroom and bedroom with access into the garage and back portion of the 17-by-73-foot lot.

The secondary suite is also two-storeys encompassing a second-floor kitchen, dining area, bedroom and one of two bathrooms, along with a sky-lit entertaining area and bedroom on the third floor.

The Agent’s Take: “It was an opportunity for families to buy their first home and if they had to, they could rent the upstairs or basement without bothering their lifestyle,” says agent Julie Hughes, who recalls a brand new house nearby fetching $800,000.

“Next door is divided like that, but the other ones are single-family dwellings.”

But few buyers were disappointed by the size of accommodations once inside. “It’s looks like a little row house, but the basement is where the largest room is with a huge bedroom with nine-foot ceilings, which is what made it so different,” Ms. Hughes adds.
