Madonna
The latest Madonna “news” has the iconic singer wearing real diamond dust on her eyelids during her ickily named Sticky & Sweet tour and getting her twentysomething model boy toy to carry her luggage.
Such yawn-worthy info has many of her hardcore fans, such as New York Magazine scribe Emily Nussbaum, asking: “Is that all there is?”
We have to admit, this phase of the 51-year-old's career has us scratching our heads as well. It's as though our mom was recording songs with Pharrell, which, come to think of it, would be totally awesome! Carry on, Madge.
Opening Ceremony's Little House of Accessories
With stores in New York and Los Angeles, hip clothier Opening Ceremony is like the cool, artsy girl in high school you were dying to befriend but too terrified to approach.
We're happy to report that the shop's new outpost, the Little House of Accessories, seems much less intimidating.
Adjacent to the OC store in L.A., the Little House sticks accoutrements by It designers like Alexander Wang, Proenza Schouler and Linda Farrow into display cases cleverly perched on the backs of farm animal statues (pictured at right). Other tongue-in-cheek details include adorable stools shaped like corn cobs.
It's equal parts kitschy and cool – and giving us tons of decorating ideas. You know what they say: Home is where the sheep-shaped cabinet is.
Oliberté Footwear
While Kanye West's new sneakers for Louis Vuitton may look great, they have little claim to fame other than their famous designer (and sky-high price).
Canada's Oliberté Footwear, however, has a lot more to boast about. The company's new offshoot is the first international footwear producer to work exclusively in Africa.
Starting in January, all the rubber for the soles of the kicks will made from Liberian rubber-tree milk and the shoes themselves will be made in Ethiopia, creating local jobs.
Founder Tal Dehtiar says the new initiative is meant to draw attention to the continent's “pride, power and liberty.” Sniff. That should bring a tear to Kanye's eye – even if it's just one of envy.
