The promise

You'll be ready in a flash with these revolutionary one-size-fits-all mineral cream eye shadow appliqués.

How it works

Promised to be long-wearing, crease-proof and 100-per-cent hypoallergenic, these Eye Tattoos are designed by a celebrity makeup artist and come in four sets of three colours and patterns each. The oval appliqué is said to fit every eye size and shape.

How to use it

Remove the oval-shaped appliqué and centre it on your lash line, holding it in place with your index and middle fingers like you're making a victory sign. To achieve a traditional smoky eye, place it dark-side down so the deepest shade deposits on the lash line. For an even more dramatic look, reverse it so the darkest shade deposits in the crease. Rub the back of the tattoo from the inside corner of your eye to the outer corner, or, for a more subtle effect, gently pat the appliqué only in the areas where you want to deposit colour. Slowly peel back the tattoo and set with a dusting of setting powder (provided).

The bottom line

I was running late for an event one night and thought, "Hey, instead of fiddling around with those messy jars and makeup palettes, with their confusing instructions and time-consuming application brushes, why not cut my prep time in half and tattoo some colour on my eyelids?" I had a "Smoky" set and an "Animal" one, with zebra stripes and multi-hued leopard spots. Being somewhat conservative in my makeup choices - and a grownup - I opted for the former. I followed the instructions to the letter, and found that the tattoo had transferred perfectly onto my eyelid. The only problem was it made me look like a comic-book heroine. Plus, I think I scared my dog. Maybe next year for Halloween?
