First, there was Tiny the cat — the not-so-small feline from Fredericton whose weight-loss efforts captured international attention.

Now, there's Michelin.

The 15.4-kilogram kitty was left at the SPCA in Moncton, N.B., last week by its owner.

The shelter's executive director, Karen Nelson, says Michelin is so large, he is under the care of a veterinarian who is monitoring his health daily.

Nelson says Michelin is exercising and eating a special diet, and has already dropped a bit of weight.

His plump predecessor, Tiny, weighed 13.7 kilograms when he was abandoned at the Fredericton SPCA in December 2011.

Tiny was adopted earlier this year after slimming down to a sleek 7.5 kilograms and being featured on CNN and in People magazine.

Nelson says Michelin will be put up for adoption once he's reached a healthy weight.
