The Buy: Canadian Culture Thing Christmas cards

Globe and Mail Update

If you're going to send out holiday cards — any day now, right? — you may as well strike a patriotic note while you're at it. That's what Toronto card and gift shop owner Chadwick Gendron thought after he got fed up with being snowed under by Americana.

He decided to take the beaver by the horns and cooked up his own line of retro-cute Canadian-themed postcards called Canadian Culture Thing. (That's us Canucks, we're both polite and to the point).

For the holidays, he's branched out from postcards to boxed note cards featuring charming archival winter-themed photographs and graphics featuring everything from toboggan runs at High Park circa 1915 to kitschy images from tourism pamphlets from Toronto (1900) or Quebec (1935) or even cards with shots of University of Toronto Women's Hockey Team in 1912.

Take that, Santa.

$4.50 each or $19.99 for a set of 10, www.valhallacards.com.
