A scene from the “Bitchy Resting Face” comedy video

Have you ever been in a situation where you're thinking neutral, or even happy, thoughts and minding your own business, and someone asks you out of the blue, "What's wrong?"

If you're a woman, you may be suffering from "Bitchy Resting Face," according to a new comedy video that has been ringing up the views on YouTube since being posted on May 22 and is starting to gain viral traction.

If you're a man, your condition is known as "Asshole Resting Face," according to the mock PSA.

In the past, the same condition has been called "Angry Resting Face" and "Chronic Bitch Face," and it is well-documented on social media, with the actor Jeremy Renner serving as the poster boy for the disease's terminal stage.

Reaction to the video in the comments on YouTube range from, "I don't think that I have ever seen a more accurate video of my life," to, "This is stupid."

The video will definitely strike a chord with anyone whose natural resting facial expression is on the grumpy end of the spectrum. Slack-jawed states of facial ambivalence can be off-putting to people who don't know you or, on the contrary, know you and are overly concerned for your well-being.

For those on the other side, it's good to learn that the impassive cashier who took your money and looked bored and angry the entire time might simply suffer from Angry Resting Face.

Or they actually do hate you. It's hard to tell. Non-verbal communication is vital in human relationships and can often reveal more than words do.

The point is, the person who is resting their face is not trying to communicate anything at all and should not have to answer for the anxieties and insecurities that arise in people to whom they don't present a fake smile. Seriously, people. Give scowlers a break.
