Justin Bieber's famous locks get top billing in his new movie. And as a parent who was dragged to Never Say Never last weekend (and, through forced immersion, knows all the words to Baby), I can confirm that a close-up of the Biebs swinging those shiny bangs in slow motion reduced the girls in the audience to a shrieking chorus of pre-teen fluster.
So, what has this $100-million idol gone and done to himself? He's chopped it off - and not just the little bang trim that caused a flurry of Web discussion two weeks ago.
Now that famous mane is cropped awfully short - with the shorn locks to be donated to charity. It's an attempt at "a more mature look," the 16-year-old pop star said. "Yeah so it's true," he tweeted to his adoring fans last night. "I got a lil haircut...I like it."
(A further explanation: "I just wanted kind of a change … I just got sick of it, it was in my eyes," he told TMZ.)
Let the worldwide debate begin. Already the Internet is buzzing with opinion - along with your regular Bieber-bashing. So far, reviews are mixed - from JB now looks, inexplicably, "like a vampire," to "u r sooo hot." (And as always, in between those giving their assessment of the new 'do, there's the standard group of people spending their time commenting on how stupid it is to be commenting on a pop singer's hair cut.)
What will all those Bieber look-a-likes do now?
It's silly, I admit, but like the Bieber movie, it's silly fun. And before you get all judgmental about a singer's hair making news, do I need to remind you (depending on your age) about Farrah Fawcett, Shaun Cassidy and that awful Jennifer Aniston shag?
