You know that kid in school who power-tripped on being a hall monitor? He'd strut around in his stupid polyester vest with a clipboard, relishing every opportunity to ruin someone's day.

Ever wonder what he's doing now, in adulthood? Probably working at the Crowne Plaza as a snore monitor.

Yup, the global hotel chain has a crew of (hopefully vest-sporting) "snore patrols" at some of their British locations, Reuters reports. These individuals monitor the designated "quiet zones" at night and, if they catch a guest tearing it up, chainsaw-style, they knock on the door to wake said guest up and tell them to keep it down. Repeat offenders are offered a room away from a quiet zone for their next stay.

There will no doubt be people eager to see this implemented at North American outposts of Crowne Plaza, too. Is there anything more torturous than those nights where you toss and turn trying to get to sleep while someone snores loudly, unrhythmically, beside you? In your weak moments, you consider smothering their face with a pillow. More often, you just drop something heavy on the ground to wake them up in an often futile attempt to get to sleep before they do. Now you can outsource your rage to one of these snore patrols!

Still, we do have some sympathy for those who snore. It is involuntary, after all. And if you're paying for a room, you'd expect to sleep throughout the night without having to answer the door at 2:08 AM to a stranger who's telling you to keep it down.

The hotel chain is also experimenting with snore-proof rooms, so those who can't help themselves can at least be sequestered in a space where they can't disturb others.

A more cost-effective solution, one Gawker commenter suggests, might be replacing pillow mints with pairs of earplugs.
