Pippa Middleton, the sister of Kate Middleton, walks to escort Kate at Westminster Abbey before her sister's marriage to Britain's Prince William in central London April 29, 2011.

The Dukan Diet, billed as "the real reason the French stay thin," looks to be the big winner of the royal wedding. Sales of the book had already began to surge in Britain when Carole Middleton, Kate's mom, praised it to journalists before the wedding, and now that it's also been linked to Kate and sister Pippa, the diet is enjoying another huge boost in popularity.

A high-protein, low-carb diet already very popular in France, the Dukan Diet, created by French physician Pierre Dukan, shot to the top of the bestseller lists in Britain when Carole told journalists she was using it to slim down for the wedding. Even sales of food recommended by the book shot up 100 per cent.

When asked why the book had proven to be so successful in Britain, Dr. Dukan told the Daily Mail it was due to two factors.

"It works, and Carole Middleton," he said.

However, some nutritionists and health experts have questioned the diet, saying that cutting out entire food groups may help people lose weight in the short term, but may prove dangerous for their long-term health.

Back in October, Carole told an interviewer she had been on the diet for four days and had already lost four pounds.

With mom on the diet, people have assumed that Kate and Pippa must be too. And while the daughters haven't confirmed whether or not they are, their connection to the diet, combined with how great both looked during the royal wedding, have helped boost the diet's profile better than any marketer could ever hope for.

The timing couldn't have been better, too. The Canadian and U.S. version of the book hit stores in late April. With the book arriving in stores just as royal wedding hype was nearing its peak, Dr. Dukan is "capitalizing on the sudden surge in media exposure," the Los Angeles Times reports.

The book is currently No. 2 on Amazon.com's bestseller list (and No. 4 on Amazon.ca).
