Marijuana is enjoying a cultural moment that might help lift it up out of the Reefer Madness gutter and in to middle class respectability.
It’s now legal in Colorado and Washington state, and now comes the next frontier: the world of haute cuisine.
Sinsemil.la, a new, underground supper club in New York, bills itself as “the first marijuana experience dedicated to fine dining.”
And no, this isn’t a variation on the pot brownies you ate in college. Looking at the menu, and the gorgeously styled photos on the club’s website, it looks to be as far from a bowl and a bag of Oreos as you could imagine.
The menu has several dishes, each incorporating various strains of marijuana: fried baby artichokes with RSZ blueberry garlic aioli; slow cooked Catskill pullet egg with crispy asparagus and lemon mazar hollandaze; and confit chicken wings and frisee salad with mango kush croutons and smoked Niman Ranch bacon, among others.
“The meal is a carefully calibrated experience from start to finish,” the website says. “Marijuana varietals are tested not just for their organic qualities, but specifically to balance the flavors of each dish and for their psychoactive properties throughout the flow of the dinner.”
Don’t seek the club out if you just want to get stoned.

In case you’re wondering, the name Sinsemilla refers to a potent type of pot that is cultivated to be seedless.
