Did a full moon cause the Duchess of Cambridge to go into labour? Will the royal baby be a Cancer like daddy, or a Leo?

These are the important questions users of the Internet are asking today.

And what a day it shall be!

At 5:30 a.m. this morning, Kate Middleton reportedly arrived at the private wing of St. Mary's Hospital in Paddington, where media outlets from around the world have been hanging around outside, waiting for precisely this moment.

People are speculating wildly online about what caused the Duchess to go into labour, suggesing a full moon, a drop in barometric pressure or an electrical storm, though they admit they're only theories.

On Twitter, a different kind of breathless waiting is taking place. Hundreds of people are insisting Kate hurry up so the baby will be born a Cancer, the sign who "takes great pleasure in the comforts of home and family" (according to Astrology.com).

If the child is born before 4:54 p.m. it will be a Cancer. After that, it will be a fiery Leo, but it may have some Cancer traits because of how narrowly it missed being a Cancer.

Prince William is a Cancer, which is also described as being "tenacious and strong-willed" as well as loyal and caring.

A Leo, on the other hand, is confident, ambitious but also domineering, melodramatic and vain.

The baby's great aunts, Princess Margaret and Princess Anne, were both Leos.

Patrice Thompson, self-described on Twitter as a life coach/strategist for women, earlier tweeted "Kate Middleton begins labor w/ Mars exactly conjunct Jupiter in familial Cancer. Mars-Jupiter is historically linked w/ royalty."

Another anxious Twitter user tweeted "Kate's in labor....and just when the Sun is leaving Cancer.#SignNailBiter Cancers DO love their mamas. But Leos might have more fun. #TossUp."

Either way, the tiny royal will have some great company.

Tom Cruise, Will Ferrell, Vin Diesel, Tom Hanks, and Sofia Vergara are all Cancers.

Barack Obama, Jennifer Lawrence, Jennifer Lopez, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Madonna and Usain Bolt are all Leos.

If he or she is born today, it will share its birthday with Jeopardy host Alex Trebek, singer Rufus Wainwright and actor/comedian David Spade.

Regardless, the child will make quite a splash when shown off for the first time (and also make a lot of money for some of those gamblers too). It's expected to set new baby trends, particularly with its name.

Globe and Mail readers predicted earlier this month that the baby will be a princess named Victoria, with blue eyes, born between 5 a.m. and noon weighing 7lbs, 3 oz.

He or she is likely to be the most influential baby the world has seen in a long time, and for that, the world is expecting a Lion King-esque announcement with bated breath.

No pressure, Kate, but would you mind hurrying up?
