Friday singer Rebecca Black is back with a new song that explores her musical muse and expands her creative horizons. Well, by one day at least.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the singer has released a new single titled, you guessed it, Saturday.
Now an older and wiser 16 year old, Black teamed with YouTube sensation Dave Days for the new song, which was released, obviously, on Saturday.
If you'll recall, Black became an instant star shortly after the release of Friday in 2011. The song has generated more than 61-million YouTube views, along with no shortage of scathing criticism. More than a few critics labelled it the worst song ever made.
In most instances, the wrath toward Friday was due to its shamelessly inane lyrics. The song is structured to feature Black describing the days of the week. "Tomorrow is Saturday," she sings happily "And Sunday comes afterwards."
Of course, Black never gets into what happens after all the rocking good times of the weekend, which is more or less where the new song comes in.
In the music video for Saturday, Black is shown shaking off the effects of a Friday-night rager with her clean-cut teen pals.
But she's a determined young lady and Black says she and her friends are determined to keep the good times rolling.
"I don't want this Saturday to end," she sings over the chirpy electronic dance beat.
The video features multiple references to the original Friday video. Black is shown writing the word "fun" on a sleeping boy's face and eating cereal from a bowl that says "gotta have my bowl" written on the side.
And when the party car gets ready to roll out for good times, Black herself is sitting in the front seat. The inference being that she's all grown up now.
In three days, the Saturday video has racked up more than eight million views on YouTube.
And it's likely more by design than accident that the Saturday lyrics feature Black singing about "trying to get 'Friday' out of my head." It's fairly apparent she's trying to get listeners to do likewise.
