The sartorial tutorial: NYC presents many fashion worlds at once, from the spare-no-expense elegance of the Upper East Side, to the new-boho nonchalance of Williamsburg. Somewhere in between (both geographically and spiritually) lies Soho – where you can mix high and low, vintage and new, urban edginess and personal quirkiness.
Pulling it off: Start with a key style piece – a great vintage coat belted over skinny jeans, fabulous over-the-knee boots from Sigerson Morrison, a flirty silk or leather skirt from A.P.C., and add layers of different textures, over or under, until you feel like a big-city, livin’ large version of yourself. Think about pulling on a hat, (toque, fedora or other) if that’s your thing, and don’t forget a statement bag.
Shopping the Look: Sigerson Morrison is a five-minute walk eastward in Nolita, and will never disappoint. A.P.C., though French in origin, inhabits Soho on Mercer Street like it owns the place. For high-end vintage try Resurrection on Mott Street, and for a 100-per-cent-downtown NYC, concept-store experience, head straight to Opening Ceremony on Howard.
